Summary
This paper presents the results from analysis of the socioeconomic
development of obshtinas (lower administrative
unit in Bulgaria) where oblast (higher administrative
unit in Bulgaria) administrative centers are situated, (26
altogether except the capital), for the 1996-2205 time
period. The research aims at outlining some trends of
the socio-economic development of this type of administrative
units, as well as the level of their significance for
the total economic development of regions where they
belong. Data about various demographic/economic indices
has been used, such as population number, age
structure, mechanical change, steady employment,
structural employment, unemployment, income (mean
annual income per employee), calculated from data of
the National Statistical Institute. Analysis of the sector
structure has been carried out by aggregated sector
clusters such as A 17 and A 6 according to the national
classification of economic activities from 2003.
