Competition regulation
The competition is held in an international format. The number of teams per country is not limited. The working languages are English and the language of the host country. Simultaneous translation from / into English is provided for public appearances and contacts and events from the cultural program.
Recommended duration of the race - between 5 and 7 days, including 3 racing rounds, additional racing events and a cultural program.
The competition is designed for students aged 16 to 19 with preferences for different subjects / fields of study, but united by a team of interest in karst. A professional interest in karst also motivates and brings together a team of teachers and consultants / mentors preparing teams. The high school age of the students is chosen for 2 reasons:
- the need for sufficient initial knowledge of karst related subjects;
- safety requirements for field work in complex karst terrain.
Participants
There are three groups of participants in the competition:- Teams (main players)
- Observer guests
- Special guests
Program of the competition
- Main Competition - held in three rounds in three consecutive days according to the schedule that participants receive when the competition is opened. Teams participate and are evaluated as a team.
- Additional racing events - held in parallel with the main race. There is an additional opportunity for individual expression of abilities and skills in three areas. Each of them is represented by 1 representative, nominated by each team.
- Cultural program - aims to provide emotional comfort to participants, as well as to acquaint them with the sights and cultural traditions of the area in which it takes place.
Preliminary preparation of participants
Unlike other international student competitions in various subjects, this competition is for karst, which is not a discipline in the educational system. Therefore, participation in the competition requires interest and motivation, as well as serious and lengthy extracurricular preparation.
Assessment and ranking of participants
The evaluation of the teams is done by the jury of the main competition and specialized juries of the additional racing events. The final ranking of the teams is formed on the basis of the total number of points from the team work in the three racing rounds and from the individual performance in the additional racing events.
